Sponsor Kinsta

Do you want to know more about our Bronze sponsor Kinsta? We asked the people of Kinsta a few questions!

How did the company get started?

Kinsta was started in 2013 by Mark Gavalda and three other individuals in a tiny apartment in Budapest, Hungary. Previously the founders were involved in website development and design work for clients on a contractual basis. They discovered at the time that they couldn’t confidently recommend or find any high-quality WordPress hosting. Building an awesome website is pointless if it doesn’t load fast and provide a good user experience.

Because of this, and the attraction off moving into a SaaS business model, they decided to start Kinsta. Their focus from the beginning was on providing fast support from actual WordPress developers paired with lightning-fast speeds. Fast forward six years, Kinsta is now a US company with a team of 100+, and one of the fastest-growing managed WordPress hosts in the industry!

What lessons were learned since the start of the company?

Kinsta is 100% bootstrapped, and partially due to that, we’ve had some unique challenges and obstacles to overcome. This includes everything from how to scale at a rapid pace, hiring and firing, customer support/care, content marketing, customer acquisition, and development.

“We are not smarter than anyone else. Success really all depends on you and how much you want to succeed.” – Tom Zsomborgi, CFO at Kinsta

Here are some tips for those of you either launching or scaling a business:

  • Start building a brand from day one.
  • Be patient, getting your first 100 customers is the hardest journey.
  • Find the best talent globally (and even save some money).
  • Know your numbers and focus on profitability.
  • Be prepared to work crazy hours if needed.
  • Invest in SEO and content marketing from the get-go.
  • The 80/20 rule exists for a reason.
  • Adapt and move fast when needed.

How do you see your company evolving in the next 5 years?

A huge benefit of not having investors to answer to is that it has allowed us to put users first. We’ve built our entire platform, including our MyKinsta and affiliate dashboards, from the ground up based on feedback from our clients. Every suggestion (both negative and positive) is recorded and discussed amongst our internal team.

This strategy has worked very well for us. Going forward, we want to improve on this even more. It means communicating further with our clients and taking in-depth quarterly surveys to see what we could be doing even better. And of course, anything we could do to make our client’s lives easier.

Our founders have always emphasized high-quality support from actual WordPress developers and delivering lightning-fast load times. Therefore as technology is continually changing, we want to always be ready to adapt and move fast as needed.

The WordPress community is growing rapidly, and we are excited for what the future holds!
